Q. What is the relationship between GD Goenka World Institute and Lancaster University?

GD Goenka World Institute [GDGWI] enjoys the unique position of being among the very few institutions in the world which can deliver the Lancaster University Business Undergraduate & Post Graduate programmes. Students at the G D Goenka World Institute in India study for a degree awarded by the Lancaster University, UK.

GDGWI offers undergraduate programmes in engineering discipline and both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the management discipline. Following is the list of programmes available:

Q. What are Lancaster University Credentials?
A. Lancaster with 7 other top Universities forms the N8 Group of research universities. Lancaster University is ranked 7th out of 120 institutions in the UK in The Guardian University Guide 2013, published 22 May 2012. Lancaster is also ranked 9th in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 inaugural league table of the world’s best young universities. Lancaster University, ranked 7th equal overall with Durham, also scored highly in the individual subject rankings: Lancaster is 13th for both Business/Management Studies and Economics, and Business/Management Studies is also ranked 3rd in the UK for 'Career Prospects'.

Lancaster University Management School is one of a small group of business schools in the world to have achieved triple accreditation from AACSB (USA), EQUIS (Europe) & Association of MBAs (UK). Lancaster University is responsible for providing the academic direction for the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Programmes offered at GDGWI.
   
Q. Who awards the degree? Does the Degree mention External Student?
A. Upon successful completion of their studies, students are awarded a Degree/Diploma by the Lancaster University, UK. In the Degree/Diploma, it does not mention the word “external”.
   
Q. What is the difference between a student enrolled with Lancaster University and GDGWI student?
A.

GDGWI is an institute that is teaching for Lancaster University Degree/Diploma programmes. All the students enrolled at GDGWI are registered with Lancaster University, and are given Lancaster University Roll Numbers/Admission Numbers. GDGWI students receive the mark sheet at the end of their Programme completion from Lancaster University and are awarded the same Degree/Diploma which students at Lancaster University receive.

The students study under faculty members from Lancaster in the MSc and PGDBM programmes and the GDGWI faculty for the other programmes. Students at GDGWI are given access to the online library of Lancaster University.

   
Q. Is the academic standing of the student enrolled as GDGWI student the same as that of a student enrolled in the U.K.? Who gives academic inputs for the Degree?
A. The GDGWI students achieve exactly the same internationally recognized academic standing as those who study full time at Lancaster University. Lancaster University assists in setting of examination papers and marking the same to exactly the same standards that assess the full-time students studying at Lancaster. The faculty at Lancaster assists the GDGWI faculty to formulate the syllabus, develop the study material, set examination papers and mark scripts. Students at GDGWI are judged by the same standards as students at the Lancaster University.
   
Q. Is the Lancaster University recognized?
A. The Lancaster University comes under the purview of British Government regulations and is one of the world’s leading academic institutes, internationally recognized. The credits earned by the Students at the GDGWI are transferable to universities in North America, Australia, and Europe.
   
Q. What is the Teaching Methodology at GDGWI? When and where are the Examinations held?
A. Contemporary teaching and learning practices informed by research and knowledge of experiences in premier business schools worldwide. Our course content, pedagogy and assessment methodology are based on global best practices. We transferred expertise in teaching and learning from triple accredited Lancaster University, amongst the foremost management schools in the world.

The students will be taught with a mix of Lecture discussion and Case study discussions. The students will be given assignments, tutorials, field and project work through group discussions and extended essays. Examinations are held at the GD Goenka Education City at the end of semesters.
   
Q. Who will be teaching me at GDGWI? What is the faculty profile at GDGWI?
A. The students at GDGWI campus are taught by a blend of Lancaster University faculty and GDGWI faculty. All faculty members are appointed after approval by Lancaster University and bring an international outlook and expertise to teaching and learning process for students. You should visit the website of the institute and have a look at the faculty profile to get a better idea of the quality of teaching that you are likely to get at the institute.
   
Q. Are Bank Loan facilities available?
A. GDGWI have tie up with Credila for non collateral loan of up to six lacs for all undergraduate and post graduate programmes. However provision of Education Loan is totally at the sole discretion of Credila and within the Credila’s Credit policy prevailing at the time of processing and disbursement of the loan.
   
Q. Does GDGWI provide Hostel Facilities?
A. GDGWI provides purpose-built, centrally air-conditioned residences (separate for boys & girls) with 500 beds for undergraduates and postgraduates. The en-suite rooms with attached bath (facility of hot & cold water) also have study-rooms shared between 4 to 8 students. The common room shared between 4 or 8 students comes complete with a service unit and refrigerator. All rooms have network ports and high speed network/internet access. Bed linen and blankets or duvets are also provided.
   
Q. Is it possible to transfer to the Lancaster University after finishing the first year here in India?
A. The Undergraduate students can take a transfer to Lancaster University Management School, UK for a period of one year or for one term. The decision of the University would be based on the academic standing of the student.
   
Q. Are there any scholarships for students?
A.

The Institute awards a number of scholarships to students on the basis of their academic performance. Since these are academic scholarships, it is expected that a student will continue to maintain good academic achievement during the period of his/her study at the GDGWI.

Q. How do I apply for a second year entry to other UK universities?
A. For a transfer to the second year, you need to apply through UCAS. You need to fill the UCAS form available on the UCAS website. GDGWI provides assistance to students who wish to apply for a transfer.
   
Q. Can a student who has completed his/ her first year of the degree at GDGWI transfer to a University in other countries?
A. All credits earned at GDGWI are transferable to any university/institution in all countries such as USA, UK, Canada, Australia etc. However, if you are thinking of transferring to another University, it is advisable to contact the concerned University with your academic profile and choice of courses intended well in advance of the proposed date of joining.
   
Q. What options do I have after completing my Undergraduate degree? Can I apply to Lancaster University for a Master’s degree?
A. The Lancaster University degree is recognized worldwide. Therefore you can pursue Postgraduate studies throughout the world. Lancaster University welcomes applications from GDGWI, but admission to post graduate programmes is subject to fulfilling all eligibility criteria.
   
Q. Does GDGWI offer placement support to its graduates?
A. The GDGWI Corporate Resource Centre team offers a broad range of expertise, services, programs, and resources to assist students with their career development, job search, and ensures 100% dedicated placement assistance to graduating students.
   
Q. What kind of Summer Internships do students get?
A. The summer internship intends to be an intensive learning experience for the students. It gives the student an opportunity to assimilate his/her theoretical understanding of the general concepts of management studied/taught in the class room with a practical experience on the company shop floor. Companies usually define the scope of the project based on their current requirements. Typically, the project has a quantifiable outcome that can be measured in the end of Internship. Student Internships are generally defined for a period of 6 - 8 weeks during summers, when students break from their academic program.
