On February 7th, the 2012 academic year graduation ceremony was held for undergraduate and Post-Graduate programmes of GD Goenka World Institute(GDGWI) and Lancaster University. The ceremony marked a new beginning for 175 students. It was chaired by Professor Mark E Smith – Vice-chancellor Lancaster University and the Chief Guest was Shree Ajeet Bajaj F.R.G.S. – Padma Shree awardee. The day of the ceremony was brightened not only by the sunny weather but also by the proud smiles of the graduates and their families.
Apart from the conferral of degrees, 5 students were given special awards for their academic and extra-curricular excellence. The Princess Alexandra Medal was given to Mr. Shawn Paperwala, Gopi Ram Goenka Award (Best overall student) for undergraduate and postgraduate went to Ms Saru Aggarwal and Ms Akanksha Agarwal respectively and the High Achiever Prize for Postgraduate Diploma and MSc went to Ms Akanksha Agarwal and Ms Sakshi Chadha respectively.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the graduates by saying, “I am delighted to share with you in having cause for celebration. At this ceremony we are proud to see your hard work and achievements bring to life our growing institutional partnership and we thank you for your contribution.”
Professor Suku Bhasakaran – Director GDGWI congratulated the students for having successfully completed a demanding, world-class programme and having acquired the capability to take up challenging careers in global corporations in India or abroad, to undertake postgraduate studies and contribute to community causes. In addition, the Chief Guest Shree Ajeet Bajaj(Padma Shree Awardee) regaled the graduates and guests with his motivational speech and narrations about his endeavours and adventures in life.
