Careers, Internship & Advanced Study

Lancaster University qualifications are unequivocally valued and readily open up opportunities for rewarding careers and internships in private sector organisations in India and abroad. Students have also gained admission for advanced study at some of the most reputed Institutions worldwide.

Two years ago as a strategic initiative, the Institute adopted a unique and, as evidenced by outcomes, a highly successful model to support students seeking career placements. The Institute established the ‘Careers and Internship Steering Group’ comprising a team of academic staff. The ‘Careers and Internship Steering Group’ directs and drives career and internship support for students. Concurrently, it provides support to enhance student competencies to participate effectively at selection interviews, either for interviews organised through the Institution or openings that the students identified themselves.

In 2015, the first year that this model was introduced, a record number of companies visited GDGWI Campus to conduct selection interviews. Trends to-date in 2016 suggests that the performance in 2016 will comprehensively outstrip the 2015 performance.

This novel model has effectively generated near 100% employment for GDGWI students in top-tier global corporations or major Indian companies, highly attractive entry-level positions and highly attractive compensation packages.

The ‘Careers and Internship Steering Group’ identifies, screens and negotiates with prospective employers. In some instances it undertakes discussions with the parent company in UK, USA, Australia, Germany, Japan, South Korea and other countries for international placements or based on referral follows through with subsidiary or associate companies in India.

Also, several students, atypical of practices in advanced countries, successfully apply for careers on their own initiative with some drawing on the resources of the ‘Careers and Internship Steering Group’ to hone in their interview skills. The Steering Group oversees the delivery of competency development training sessions, facilitates links with industry, and creates awareness of the capabilities that potential employers could be seeking.

Because some of our academic staff has qualifications and work experience in top-tier higher education institutions worldwide, academic staff actively engages in career and high education counseling endeavours.
