Summary  

The BA (Hons) Business Economics provides a strong foundation in economic theories and principles but with a particular focus on examining their relevance to business and managerial situations. Students will be asked to analyse the international economic environment and to assess the impact of external factors on micro and macroeconomic performance and public policy. This programme allows students to study economics whilst leaving more space in the curriculum for Business Studies.

Career Opportunities
The institute places very high importance on career plans of graduating students and thus has a fully functional training and placement division. This division is in constant networking with the industry, to open new avenues for the students in the growing service, manufacturing and consulting sectors. The institute works towards providing excellent career opportunities for students through campus placement fairs.

Educational Aims: Knowledge, Understanding and Skills
This degree scheme aims to develop students' knowledge, understanding and ability to apply techniques in the area of economics specifically to problems in the business sector.

Students should be able to understand a wide range of theoretical debates in economics and business, analyse economic problems and evaluate the implications for economic policy and business planning & strategy. The degree scheme is distinctive in that students have access to a wide choice of specialist courses, ranging across advanced Microeconomic and Macroeconomic theory, advanced quantitative methods and International Economics.

Learning Outcomes
This section sets out what is to be acquired and how it is to be acquired in the areas of knowledge and understanding, cognitive, practical and transferable skills.

Subject Specific Knowledge, Understanding and Skills

  • Understanding and application of the transferable concepts of economics including: opportunity cost; incentives; equilibrium, disequilibrium & stability; strategic thinking; expectations & surprises; the importance of analysis at the margin in making decisions; gains from voluntary exchange; systems & dynamics
  • Acquisition of subject specific skills including: skills of abstraction; analytical skills; quantification & design skills; framing skills

First Semester: August to November, Second Semester: November to February, Third Semester: February to May

Eligibility for Admission
A minimum of 60% marks in class 12th examination or equivalent national or international exam board. Students with 50-59% marks will be considered on a case by case basis depending on their performance in the entrance exam and personal interview.

Students will demonstrate that they:

  • have programme specific knowledge and understanding including: core economic principles; quantitative methods and computing techniques; applications of economics; sources, uses and analysis of data; applications of economic methods in the business context.

    • are effective team workers (including multi-cultural and diverse groups)
    • are effective analysts (subject specific)
    • have awareness of ethical understanding and reasoning
